Meeting Holly Becker & Decorate!

This morning I was so lucky enough to meet Holly Becker from Decor8 at a press breakfast for her new book Decorate! Wow is all I can say! Holly is the nicest, friendliest and warmest person you can possibly meet. After years following her blog, knowing pretty much everything about her it was great to have the opportunity to actually meet her in person. Straight away she made me feel at ease and we chatted about her excitement of her new book Decorate, talking about social media and our passion for blogging! :)

It was also lovely meeting Joanna Copestick, (co-author) and many other inspiring bloggers and stylists, all in all it was a great start to the day.

I am on such a high I cannot tell you! Holly is someone that I completely admire and who really inspires me and makes me want to follow my dream and believe in myself, she is a true inspiration! I cannot thank her enough for inviting me this morning, it has definitely kicked off my new years with a bang!

I am so excited about having a signed copy of her book, it looks amazing after having a quick flick through. With the rest of the day planned I cannot wait to relax with a nice cup of tea and be totally inspired by this gorgeous book. I promise to share snippets of my favourite bits and tell you everything about it soon! Decorate hits the shops in March but you can pre order your copy on Amazon by clicking here!

Off I go as Decorate is calling me :)

Friday Inspiration...

Well it has been a very busy week and I am so excited with my new blog design, still a few tweaks but nearly there. Please do let me know what you think, I am just over the moon!

Anyway here goes my first post with the new design and I thought it would be nice to share some beautiful inspirational images to get us ready for the weekend. While reading one of my favourite blogs, Decor8 I came across this amazing illustrator called Cate Parr. After checking out her Etsy shop all I can say is 'wow', these fashion illustrations are just divine. I cannot stop gazing at the soft watercolours and pastels she uses, the colours are just mesmerising for me. Stylishly dreamy and simply gorgoeus.

Happy weekend!

Today I'm Loving...

This gorgeous Parisian home of Australian fashion designer Martin Grant. These inspirational images are courtesy of a new website I have discovered, Vartnya Hem a great place for cool finds.

I simply love everything about these interiors. The mix of eclectic furniture finds, those wooden beams and not to mention that flooring, just gives that rustic edge. The lovely combo of interesting artwork and decorative accessories and the splashes of colour, just divine! Yes I would be quite happy living in this space, you?

Top Drawer 2011 Round Up

Top drawer kicked off the year and it certainly did not disappoint, oozing with inspiration it was great to see so many exciting products.

Here are some of my favourite picks...

I am such a fan of Ary Trays, so I just had to have a quick snoop at the Michael Angove‘s spoon, feather and egg designs, never disappoints.

Speaking of trays I also loved the quirky designs from Jenny Duff, vibrant and fun!

How cool are these mugs from Cole of London? This collection of the monarch mugs is so fun, a great way to learn your history ;)

There were so many great accessories as always from Wild & Wolf. I particularly loved the Rob Ryan collection which was no surprise really. Available to buy from Bloomsbury store.

I fell in love with the new Olympic range from Jan constantine. Flying the flag for Britain with these beautifully coloured cushions they were a real hit.

Speaking of cushions, I am a big fan of Michelle Mason, having featured her on my 'one to watch' series. Her collection is always fresh and up beat. Love the new Columbia road cushion, very sweet.

With vintage right on trend, Granny Knits has it spot on. This is a new brand of contemporary cross stitch kits from the people behind Pearl & Earl. I love their products, full of nostalgic chic to drool over..

Betty Boyns have launched a new vintage gift ware range which is just exquisite, I also particularly loved their fabrics that were developed from this range.

Now here is a fun 100% cotton tea towel from Mibo. Have a dab at some of your inner crafts skill and have some fun making this cute lion into a cushion. They will be in stock in 4 weeks time!

Having already posted about Hello Geronimo I had to feature it on my best picks as it was a real favourite of mine. Making artwork from buttons never looked so good.

I finally managed to meet Lorna Syson in the flesh and she is as lovely as her wall flowers. I have featured her work many times on my blog as it is so refreshing and new. I have to say seeing this aqua/teal wall flower in real life is even more magical. Absolutely loved it.

All images from named companies.

Friday Inspiration...

Comes from an inspirational and interiors blog that I have recently discovered called Annaleena's Hem. Annaleena is a scandinavian stylist who loves sharing her passion for interiors and everything else, her blog is simply stunning. Here are some images that I found perfect for a Friday afternoon read. These pictures are taken from her friends home and the photographer is Annaleena herself, so not only does she have a fantastic eye but is an extremely talented lady.

Have a lovely weekend friends x

Today I'm Loving...

I had a great time at top drawer and was definitely in my element surrounded by so many exquisite accessories. One that really stood out for me was the lovely collection of handmade embellished artwork and textiles from Hello Geronimo. I had the pleasure of meeting Victoria, such a breath of fresh air just like her designs. I love these framed artworks made out of buttons, badges and you name it, each being a unique piece of its own.

Take a look for yourselves, they are so much fun!

My Top Drawer highlights will be posted soon.

One To Watch: Custhom

The one to watch series is back after a long holiday break and I am excited to introduce to you these two lovely talents that form  London based mixed media design collective, Custhom. I thereby introduce to you  Nathan Philpott and Jemma Ooi, two RCA graduates who have a passion for digital embroidery/illustration and silk screen printing. I particularly love their beautiful wallpapers that react to sunlight/heat and change colour.

I have been very lucky to have met Jemma at a couple of events. she is as lovely as her products. Here the duo kindly answer a few questions.

When did you realise you had a passion for design?
(N) From as far back as I can remember, I was always making 'something'  whether it was a den, an egg box robot, plasticine animations or Lego ships, this grew into into an obsession with how things were created.  After initially studying illustration, this lead me to printed graphics and digital embroidery and my inquisitiveness has continued to grow.
(J) From the day I started finger painting - so... about 3 years ago?

Where do you inspirations come from?
(J) Mostly from my environment at the time - I'm fascinated by the changes within natural form but it can be anything from the shape of a building to what is at the bottom of a rock pool that feeds my creativity.
(N) everything and anything . . . Architecture, music videos, New Scientist, National geographic, new places, old places and dreams.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
(Both) Bumping into each other at the Royal College of Art and developing a range of products that are unique and challenging in their processes, from wallpapers that react to heat and sunlight, to designing a collection that recycles unwanted bone china elegantly and sustainably.

What do you hope to achieve in 5 years time?
(Both) Just the know, world domination :)

What famous artists/designers do you admire or inspires you the most?
(J) We find so many people interesting, from different creative backgrounds, but a few are Martin Margiella, Michel Deverne, Jasper Johns, Charlie Harper and Sarah Sze
(N) Michel Gondry, Hella Jongerius, Roel Wouters, Robert Rauchenberg , Stanley Donwood and Wallzo.

What five words best describe you ?
(N) Optimistic, fidgety, quietly confident & determined
(J) Perfectionist, pessimist, driven, honest & ambitious

What 5 things couldn't you live with out?
(J) The people I love, my phone, my laptop, internet and tea.
(N) My British library card, Laptop, The Simpsons, music and grape fruits.

Thanks so much to Jemma and Nathan and I look forward to seeing more from them as I think they are fab. Good Luck :)

Helena Christensen's Stylish Home

I don't know what is wrong with me lately but I just can't seem to shake off this nostalgic feeling since coming back from my Parisian break. Most images that I come across have a certain French vibe to them. Maybe I'm just feeling all romantic with valentines coming up. ;)

I have completely fallen in love with Helena Christensen's New York home featured in 'The Shelby is in Your Place'. How gorgeous is this totally stylish haven?! So not only is she utterly stunning but she also happens to have impeccable style. From her art collection to the vintage furniture and not to mention those shoes....Love love love.
