Happy Weekend!

Another fabulous week nearing to the end and boy what a day it was yesterday! I may not have been in the UK but I made sure to watch the Royal Wedding and whatever your views there is no denying that Kate looked absolutely stunning, that dress was utterly gorgeous, an epitome of classical elegance. I wish you all a happy weekend my lovelies as I am off to the beach for a friends birthday party and it will be lovely seeing old friends. Also a big congrats to Lauren from Aspiring Kennedy who won the Royal Contest yesterday. See you next week and enjoy whatever you are doing! x

A Day in Lucca!

I hope you had a lovely Easter break. Mine has been fabulous, total relaxation and enjoying this amazing country that is Italy! My weekend was filled with quality time with friends and family. I thought I would share with you some snippets from my photo album of my day at Lucca that I spent yesterday admiring. I can never get tired of this city, it is just incredibly captivating. I was lucky enough to witness a flower market too! So while I am still on holiday enjoying myself I have not forgotten about you and so wanted to say hi! Take care my friends x

Royal Wedding Contest

It's Royal wedding fever happening all over the world and I love just knowing how everyone is celebrating this big event. A day where it really is uniting everyone globally which in a way is really quite exciting. I am constantly fascinated what is going on internationally so it was quite fun seeing that across the other side of the pond Von Hemert Interiors in Orange County, California is going to be throwing a very elegant luxury furniture event themed around the royal wedding on Thursday evening 28th April.

Von Hemert Interiors is a respected full service furniture retailer with an experienced in-house interior design team in the US. This fourth generation family run company produces elegant, traditional interiors for a discerning clientèle. They have gone all out with the celebration with an A-list team of event partners getting involved. What is really special about this, is that 5% of all proceeds of sales during the event and through the end of their business on Sunday will be donated to the Red Cross to help the victims in the Japanese earthquake. Unfortunately in times like these not everyone can be fortunate enough to enjoy themselves so it really makes me happy that we can in some way help those that need it the most! It shows us that events like these can really be beneficial to all!

Therefore I was extremely honoured when they asked myself and the lovely Stacey from  Quintessence Blog (@quintessenceblg on twitter) if we wanted to get involved by helping out and get everyone joining in on the fun! This is a fabulous idea and I am so excited announcing this game amongst you guys, It is so fun that people based in the UK, Europe and anywhere around the world have a chance of playing together and really connecting globally. The prize will be a beautiful Union Jack beaded evening clutch designed by famous handbag designer Joanna Lhuillier. So here's the deal...

Have you ever wondered what it would be like choosing furniture for the royal couple 's home?  Quite a daunting task I would say, I mean what perfect item would look great in their new house? For now, when in London it seems they will be living in Clarence House but in the meantime, Prince Charles is building a 'green' home for them on the 900 acre Harewood Park Estate in Herefordshire, close to the border of Wales as well as Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Well here's your chance to show us what you think you would choose for this new home if you were designing it!  All you have to do is follow these simple steps...

Architect's Sketch of Will & Kate's future home.
How to play:

1. Click here to like von Hemert's facebook page.
2. Pick the furniture by going to the brands page on Von Hemert's site. Choose whatever you like from the following 4 collections: Baker, Century, Hickory Chair, and Theodore Alexander (2nd page).
3. Pick your piece(s), copy the url of that piece from the browser bar and paste the link back on von Hemert's facebook page with a comment telling us why you think it's the right piece for the young royal couple.
4. If you are not familiar with how to paste on facebook follow these steps:
  • Under photos at top see Share.
  • Click on "link"
  • Paste the copied url for the furniture piece there
  • In the comment box that appears, write your reason for choosing the piece
  • Finally, click share and it will appear
Pretty simple right? The winner will be announced and chosen by myself and Stacey on Friday 29th April, what better way than to celebrate this Royal Day with you guys!

Good luck and enjoy the party ;)

Liberty Art Fabrics Spring/Summer 2011

I really do adore Liberty’s new collection of fabrics for Spring/Summer 2011 which is inspired by the wonderful world of children’s illustration. Just adorable and perfect for this time of year! There are fifty new designs featured in the collection and what's even more special is that the Liberty Art Fabrics Design Studio has collaborated with a selection of children’s book illustrators, up and coming young talent such as Sally Haysom and graduates from Falmouth College of Art and Design and award winning illustrators including Lauren Child, David McKee, Brian Wildsmith, Jane Ray, Emma Chichester Clark and Quentin Blake to name a few. The result is fresh, playful and completely enchanting with a colour palette that ranges from beautiful soft delicate shades to the deepest darkest hues of the fairy tale forest.

Here is a selection of a few designers mentioned where it shows their illustrations translated into their gorgeous fabrics for this stunning collection. I am really loving this collaboration aren't you? It is just so sweet.

Charlie's Paisley by Quentin Blake.

Plum Dog by Emma Chichester Clark.

Tom's Jet by Brian Wildsmith.

Princess Emerald by Sally Haysom.
Fabrics are priced from £19.95 per metre.

Student Profile: Helena Borg

Student profile is back after a long break. I am so excited when embracing our future talent, so this month the spotlight falls on Helena Borg, which in my opinion is an extremely talented lady. Here is her profile and descriptions on some of her projects.
Name: Helena Borg,
Location: Currently living in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
Currently Studying: KLC.
Previous Background: If I hadn't chosen languages for my university degree, I would have studied either architecture or design. Languages brought me to the UK from my native Slovenia, and it is here that I decided to give it a chance and pursue my life-long passion in interior design.
About Me: Funnily enough, doing the course made me realise that there has been an active interior designer inside me as long as I can remember. All my old scketchbooks, magazine clippings, drawings, plans, memories of converting vintage furniture into something new, decorating adventures, oh yes, and I should not forget my very first isssue of Homes&Gardens which I have kept religiously for all these years have come to life now. Project managing the build of my own house abroad has also given me an enormous amount of experience and not to mention design opportunities and challenges it has offered!
Favourite Designers: My favourite designer has to be Alessi then Phillipe Starck and oh yes, I love Italian design, especially their kitchens.
Dream Job: Just being an interior designer, as simple as that.

City Apartment
Subtle blues to connect with the blue sky outside and yellow to suggest sunlight for when the skies are not so blue. In combination with off-whites, cream tones and luxurious finishes a harmonious and elegant room scheme can be achieved.

Classical Elegance
Neutrals, cream and gold, architectural elements, timeless resistance like those marble columns in ancient Rome...

Country Charm
Warm pastel tones in green and pink work together a cosy relaxing environment and retain that traditional feel.

Living Room in a Town House
Bring the memories of your travels to exotic faraway places to your living room, or, create them in it at least. The 'wow' wallpaper and richness of the floor covering will let you indulge in the luxury of your home. Surround yourself with cushions in copper silk and blue crushed velvet.

Study
This is a sample board for a colour scheme in a library/study. The elegant browns and greys (walnut floor, grey velvet upholstery), are uplifted by splashes of yellow on curtains and cushions. Imagine tall ceilings, walls covered by striped wallpaper in light reflecting stripes of light beige and off-white.

Do get in touch if you would like a chance to appear on 'Student Profile'.

Conran Fabric Archive Unleashed

Here is something exciting that I have stumbled upon, in celebration of his 80th birthday this year, Sir Terence Conran has made available to Surface View a range of stunning mid-century prints, from the Conran archives.

Kept under lock and key at the V&A since the 1970’s, sixteen of the 52 prints from the 1950s and 60s are now available as wallpaper, prints and canvases. These include a selection designed by Sir Terence Conran himself. Having originally trained as a fabric designer at Central St Martins, Sir Terence established two manufacturing companies in the 1950s; Conran Fabrics and Conran Furniture. Although Conran Fabrics ceased trading in the 70s, the designs were held at the V&A for posterity.

Isn't this exciting, they are so fun and quirky, which you wouldn't expect anything less from Conran. Here are a selection of the prints, aren't they divine?

Friday Inspiration... Rie Elise Larsen

Yay it's Friday, hasn't the week flown by and what a week it has been! Fully productive at this end and I am beyond excited on what I am working on and I promise promise I will tell you all about it soon :) This week was also extremely fun as I went along to Holly Becker's book launch held at Liberty. What a great evening meeting new and familiar faces and chatting away. Of course I got to see Holly again whom there is no hiding how much I admire this woman, truly inspiring, she is simply a beautiful person to know. I also finally got to meet Leslie Shewring from A Creative Mint, what a sweetheart! All in all it was a great night and it really gave me this inspiring edge to just go for it and really believe in myself. You can see some photos of the event on my facebook page.

Ok so enough rambling on and I will leave you with some gorgeous images from an online shop that I have recently discovered. Former stylist Rie Elise Larsen launched her own collection of home accessories in spring 2008. I just love Danish design don't you? This collection is just colourful, flamboyant and fun, just what I need on a Friday afternoon!

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy!

Easter Decorating Ideas

I still haven't done any Easter decorations and with me going away for the holidays I should really get a move on, any excuse to make our home prettier. Again Ikea have won me over with their table styling. Bright colours and simple styling is a definite look that I am loving and would love to try this out, rustic simplicity and reminiscence of summer lunches...

Dressing up twigs are also a favourite of mine, simple and an easy look to achieve. I love decorating small Easter eggs too. Here are some ideas I found while seahcing online, aren't they pretty?

from top clockwise: simple twig idea found via Decor8; Nina from Stylizimo does it again by decorating these pretty eggs with lovely pastel colours, gorgeous. Annaleena does simple rose twigs in a vase, love the rolled up fabric; more twigs with some birds from Desde my Ventana, so cute.

Graham & Brown's Crown And Coronets

With the Royal wedding fever it is all about the Crown Jewels at the moment. I feel this wallpaper is just so appropriate with the Royal festivities coming up. Graham & Brown's Crown and Coronets wallpaper is just quintessentially British and you can make it as precious as you like by adding 'Royal' jewels or any colour from their exclusive paint collections. Just £25.00 a roll to glam your house up in a mini Royal parlour, it's as close as I will get to the Royal Wedding ;)

New Online Shop Rowen & Wren

I am so excited about this new online shop, Rowen & Wren going live in a couple of weeks. I have been following Rowen & Wren's blog for quite some time where they have been showing little snippets of certain products they will be selling and it sure does look lovely. This online lifestyle brand has a unique approach to home décor and interior design and I really believe it is going to be amazing.

Rowen & Wren is created by Lucy Uren and her partner of 7 years Graeme Purdy. Lucy is the creative director where Graeme is the commercial director so they make a pretty good team! Their passion for beautiful interiors really shines through from years working in home ware design and retail.

Rowen & Wren will be selling an exciting range of textiles, home accents, mirrors, lighting, furniture and gifts that work in both classic and contemporary homes. To help with the whole decorating process, they have pulled together 3 collections for customers to choose from which are: Distant Home, Refined Rural and Timeless Living. Even though it is not live yet Lucy was kind enough to give me an exclusive first peek of an image for each of these looks. I am loving what I am seeing so far and cannot wait to share more........

Their website is live in approx two weeks. In the mean time you can visit their blog or find them on Twitter.
